In 2008, New York City completely overhauled its Fire Code, it was the first comprehensive fire code change in nearly 100 years. The update code strengthened and enhanced fire protection across the five boroughs. Now, once again, the Code is being amended.
The bill, Intro.1174, proposes to enhance emergency preparedness in New York City and will also adopt the current fire standards found in the 2009 Edition of the International Fire Code. The updated Fire Code will also reference more current versions of NFPA. For example, instead of NFPA 25 of 2002, the code will reference the 2011 edition.
