On 8/7/14 members of the Nassau County Fire Marshals reviewed contractor testing guidelines and procedures for the newly enacted fire sprinkler functionality tests, now required by local law. Each building with a fire sprinkler system, in addition to annual inspection and maintenance, must now have a pressurized check and functionality test every 5 years. The tests will be performed and conducted by licensed and certified vendors, and witnessed by a Nassau County Fire Marshal. This functionality test was developed to insure that fire sprinkler systems across the County, especially older systems, remain reliable and in good working order to slow fire spread, protect property, and reduce the risk of injury to our firefighters. We thank the staff of Abco Peerless Fire Sprinklers for their cooperation, and use of their building for demonstration purposes.
